Learning the concepts in the classroom is one thing, and retaining them is another. A student might have understood the things being taught at the school, but he/she is susceptible to forget these things. Hence, revision plays a significant role. A regular revision not only proliferates the learning capacity, but it also improvises the understandability and reduces the stress during the examinations.
When the syllabus is vast, a student might get intimidated by the thought of revision. Here are a few tips that can make the revision process more comfortable and more efficient for the students:-
1) EAT BREAKFAST
According to a study, about 27% of the boys and 39% of the girls skip their breakfast. Breakfast is considered to be the most essential meal of the day as it provides a head start to all your activities. Skipping a meal can significantly affect a student’s capability and productivity. It can reduce the attention span and also have adverse effects on the health of the student. A student should make sure to never miss their breakfast. Only having a glass of milk due to the lack of time can also help. Parents should make sure that their child has a well- balanced and healthy breakfast every day.
2) PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY
In the contemporary age, mobile phones and other devices have become a significant distraction to the students. Children spend hours engrossed in their mobile phone screens. Mobile addiction has become a very standard term nowadays. Social- media, games, videos, etc. are exciting and can capture the attention of a person. Not only children, but even adults are also suffering from this addiction. Therefore, while revising or studying, it is better to keep your mobile device away. OUT OF YOUR SIGHT, OUT OF YOUR MIND.
3) START EARLY
Procrastination is another significant problem that many people and especially youngsters face nowadays. Learning something demands commitment. Spread out your learning sessions into short time periods. Spending one hour on a particular topic for ten days is better than working on the same continuously for 10 hours. This helps people better manage time and also learn better.
4) TEST YOURSELF
Practice mock tests and other practice papers and analyze your position. Testing yourself is one of the most effective ways of improving your learning capabilities. Through experiments, one gets an idea about his/ her weak points. They can manage their content better and also calculate the efforts needed on a particular topic. Therefore, while revising, make sure that you are testing yourself regularly.
5) SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE
When you learn something and share the knowledge on the same with other people, you get a better idea of the concepts. Also, things get embedded in your mind through this method. Indulge yourself in group studies and ask people to share their knowledge.
6) GO HIGHLIGHTER CRAZY
Highlighting the whole chapter will do no good. Instead, highlight only the substantial chunks of information and essential words. While revision, these highlighted words will catch your attention, and you will not find the need to read over the whole text again. This way, you will also be able to save a lot of time and invest your energy more proficiently.
7) LISTEN TO MUSIC
Listening to music loosens the mind and relieves tension. At regular intervals, take a break and refresh your mind by listening to some calm melody. Even high rock and metal songs can amp up your energy level. Motivating songs also keeps our mind optimistic. Some students prefer listening to music with their earphones while studying and learning. A calm melody in the background can improve your attention and yield better results.
8) GET FRESH AIR AND EXERCISE
As the famous saying goes- All work and no play made Jack a dull boy, a person needs some physical activity in their life. Therefore, studying all the time should also not be considered a good practice. Exercise regularly and get fresh air experience whenever possible. Go out for a run, meditate, play a game, etc.
9) GET PLENTY OF ZZZs
Sleep deficiency can hamper your brain functioning. Make sure that you get proper sleep of at least 7-8 hours every day. A sleep-deprived mind can face problems in concentrating and also working. Students hardly get any sleep a day before the exam. This can have several reasons, from the review- anxiety to studying the whole night. Parents should make sure that their ward gets a proper sleep at least a day before the exam.
