New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi’s crack, “My name is not Rahul Savarkar”, in a rally; has spiked anger in the Shiv Sena board. Shiv Sena (an ally to the congress in Maharashtra) has reacted strongly to this jibe and made some clear statements about not making fun of the hero that was Savarkar. “We believe in Pandit Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi. Don’t insult Savarkar,” senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut tweeted in reaction to the statement. He said. “Veer Savarkar is the God of not only Maharashtra but also the country. The name Savarkar is a matter of the nation’s pride. Like Nehru and Gandhi, Savarkar sacrificed his life for the country’s Independence. Every such God should be honoured.”
Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at Savarkar’s name when BJP asked him to apologize for his “rape in India” comment while addressing the ‘Bharat Bachao rally’ in Delhi earlier today. He insisted that “I will not apologize for speaking the truth; I am Rahul Gandhi and not Rahul Savarkar.” He added that” It is Narendra Modi and his assistant Amit Shah who should apologize to the country for destroying the economy.” His comment is related to the time when Savarkar requested an early release from the British jail in Andaman.
Rahul Gandhi is popular for his nonsensical speeches and is always in the news for his remarks or gestures. He is the favourite of Twitterati when it comes to memes. In the latest jibe, he has annoyed yet another set of ministers and their sentiments and even BJP has asked him to apologize for his remarks against Savarkar.
