Google and NCERT Launch YouTube Channels in 29 Indian Languages

In a landmark move to revolutionize digital education in India, Google has partnered with the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to launch YouTube channels in 29 Indian languages, including Indian Sign Language. This initiative aims to make quality educational content accessible to students, parents, and educators across the nation, particularly in remote areas.

  • These channels are tailored to the NCERT curriculum for grades 1 to 12.

  • Google’s AI capabilities will enhance video content by identifying key concepts and providing definitions, images, and other resources.
  • This feature supports subjects like biology, physics, and chemistry by offering instant explanations and visual aids.
  1. Credentialed Courses through NPTEL Collaboration:

  • Google has joined hands with the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) to introduce credentialed courses on YouTube.
  • Learners can access certifications in diverse fields, such as pure sciences and rocket propulsion, through the NPTEL-SWAYAM portal.

In 2023, Google committed ₹33.2 crore to AI literacy programs for students, teachers, and parents, reflecting its long-term vision to empower India’s youth for an AI-driven future.

Additional Initiatives

  1. Fellowship for Early Childhood Education:

  • Google is collaborating with Rocket Learning, an Indian non-profit, to launch “Saheli,” an AI-powered tutor for early childhood education, targeting foundational literacy and numeracy skills for children aged 3–6.

  • Free AI courses on topics like Generative AI, Responsible AI, and Large Language Models are being expanded to include seven Indian languages.
