Renowned Bill Gates once stated that “If you make something that other people can use, you don’t have to pay them.” I like to think of this quote as the most basic fundamental purpose under which education is granted. Higher Education in the 21st century doesn’t mean we’re doomed to a life of desk jobs at some corporate headquarters, so let’s take a step back and see what makes higher education so important in our current society.
There is a relationship between knowledge and education. Higher education is something that has gained a lot of popularity in the past generation. Whether people can be successful without it, I don’t know. But it’s obvious that having one will help when it comes to getting a job. For example, though my company has had over 1,000 people apply for several positions we’ve been hiring for lately, I know that having a degree is what will separate me from the competition.
After all, many people say that without one, you just aren’t as well-off these days with the exception of certain jobs where experience and talent can trump having a degree.
In any discussion about education in the 21st century, you must remember that there is an overwhelming array of information available at our fingertips. The people who are going to live and work in this 21st century are the ones who are capable of using those tools to write their own destinies. This is why the importance of getting an education cannot be stressed enough.
You are likely to amass a great deal more knowledge through self-education than you will probably ever learn in a classroom, at least at this point in history. No one in their right mind would even waste time attempting to argue against this fact.

What people remember about high school —the parties, the drama, the sports — are really just distractions from learning. The real purpose of high school is to make you a better person in preparation for college, a job or your future as an adult.

You won’t have to worry about getting a good job because you will know that if things don’t work out, you can always learn more skills and get a better one.
You also gain knowledge. Knowledge is power, and it helps you make better decisions about your future. It gives you more options when faced with difficult situations because it provides information that can help guide your choices. Knowledge also helps expand our understanding of how things work so we can use them better or avoid mistakes that might lead us down dangerous paths.
For example, if someone has cancer and wants to learn about their condition before deciding whether or not treatment will benefit them, then they may find some useful information about their disease through higher education classes like biology and chemistry which explain how cells divide and grow.
The twenty-first century is a society of information availability and sharing. The majority of jobs in today’s world require at least some college education, and the competition for most of these jobs is fierce. While a high school diploma may have been sufficient to get a decent job thirty years ago, the same is not necessarily true now.
In fact, it is becoming more and more difficult for those with only a high school degree to find work in their chosen field. One reason for this is that now it is possible for people to work remotely, and as such, many companies are hiring employees from all over the world. This means that companies have access to talent from a much larger pool of applicants than they did in the past.
If you want to stand out from the crowd and obtain your dream job, the best way to do so is with a college degree, preferably one related to your chosen career path. Even if you aren’t able to get into your preferred school right away, there are plenty of ways around this issue. You can attend community college or online courses while working on getting into your ideal school by taking prerequisite classes at local universities or through community colleges.
There are two reasons why higher education is so important today: education itself, and the expectations that go with it. Delivering quality education is in itself a laudable accomplishment, but it’s even more important when you consider the expectations that society has of its institutions of higher education.
Today’s students expect to get their money’s worth, which means that everyone from professors and administrators to students themselves needs to work harder than ever before to ensure that these expectations are indeed met.
